Ian Macdonald, B.Comm

Mr. Macdonald is the President and co-founder of the company and started Tomko as a marketing student while still in University. Today, he remains actively involved managing the company.

Ian is recognized by our clients as an invaluable resource for his knowledge and understanding of Tennis / Basketball Court Construction, Artificial Turf Fields, Running Tracks, Golf Driving Range Equipment, Tennis Ball machines and related Sports Facility Equipment. He is in demand by Landscape architects and City / Parks Managers for his expertise in the development of proper specifications and implementation of Sports Facility projects. Having witnessed virtually every mistake that can be made in the construction process, he brings over 40 years of experience and a level of professionalism that is unparalleled in this industry.

Mr. Macdonald holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of British Columbia (1983).



Cam Hodgson, BHK, Kinesiology

Mr. Hodgson is the Operations Manager and has been at Tomko for 14 years. He joined Tomko in 2004 and is actively involved managing the contracting operations in Vancouver.

Cam is revered with our customers for his uncompromising high standards and attention to detail  – He has the ability to install Artificial Turf (Tennis & Fields), Plexipave, Plexicushion, Plexitrac (Polyresin based track surface), Armour & Riteway Crack repair, Premier Courts, Porous Concrete, Modular Courts, and Sports Facility Equipment. 

Mr. Hodgson holds a Bachelor of Human Kinetics Degree, Kinesiology  (2010).



John Dafoe, BA,  Econ.

Mr. Dafoe is the General Manager having been with Tomko for over 30 years. He started part time while still in High School back in 1984 and remains actively involved managing the day to day operation in Calgary.

John is recognized in the industry as “the” expert in the construction of Tennis Courts, Running Tracks, Baseball Batting Cages, and Outdoor Hockey Rinks. Having  the philosophy of repeatedly exceeding recommended standards for construction has reinforced his reputation and been key to maintaining Tomko’s preferred status in the marketplace.  Having been involved in the revitalization / maintenance of Tennis Courts of nearly all major Cities / Towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan, John has assisted with the design and specification formulation for countless projects. These include the Canada Summer Games, Alberta Summer Games, Saskatchewan Summer Games etc., not to mention hundreds of Clubs, Cities, Communities, and Private Customers.

As a player himself, Mr. Dafoe’s interest in Tennis has led to volunteering for the Calgary Tennis Club – Board of Directors (1996 – 2001), and Alberta Tennis Association (1999 – 2005). He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Major Economics, Minor Political Science) from Simon Fraser University (1991).


Jonathon Lee, BBA

Mr. Lee is the Controller and has been with Tomko for 7 years.

Like the other Tomko Management Team members, Jonathon originally joined the company as a crew member and has since risen through the ranks to oversee day to day management of the company.

Mr. Lee holds a Bachelors of Business Administration and Management from Langara College (2015).
